Mom & Dad 35th Anniversary Session

Original post from Instagram:

In a small floral frame, there’s a portrait of a 23-year-old couple on their wedding day. They’re standing in a small chapel in Nevada. It’s March 24, 1987. I wonder how that day felt for them. If they thought about all that was ahead of them—kids and later grandkids, the highs and lows of the future, and all the memories their life together would bring.

When I was little, I remember asking my mom if I could see more of her wedding pictures. The portrait in the floral frame was the only one I had seen. She told me that was the only one but she wished she had more. Her and my dad didn’t have a wedding photographer and looking back, she wishes they did.

I‘ve always wanted to see more of that day. The details. What the space looked like. How the day felt, captured in photographs. Looking back at how much I loved looking through old family photos when I was younger, I see that a heart for photography was there all along. I love stories and to see them translated into images is priceless to me. I have a hard time describing it, but it just feels important.

That picture from 1987 is the only professional portrait my parents have of just them. For their anniversary this year, I asked if we could change that.

So here’s to my parents—the strongest people I know and the greatest example of unconditional love. Happy 35th Anniversary, Mom and Dad! I love you more than the world and hope you enjoy your portraits. Cheers to you!

Hugs,
Monica
